Girls 14 and older
Ride'em cowgirl! Would you like to share your riding skills and knowledge of horses with younger girls? If you are 14 and older and LOVE horses, come be a part of the Girl Scouts - Audubon Council's Wrangler Program. You will be paired with adult mentors to teach Western horseback riding workshops at Camp Marydale to troops and service units. Wranglers also help out with special weekend events.
How much time does it take?
Wranglers meet once each quarter at the Council Office to get up-to-date information about the horses, equipment and events at Marydale. Wranglers are expected to participate in 2 or 3 weekends per semester, and Wrangler Weekends are scheduled 2 or 3 times a year.
What is a Wrangler Weekend?
These weekends are held at Camp Marydale and are designed to provide you with the opportunity to improve your basic horsemanship and riding skills, and to give you a chance to get to know the other girls in the program. You will also have an opportunity to meet with horse care professionals and professional trainers.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Wrangler, call our Program Department at 927-8946 or email wranglers@girlscoutsaudubon.org.
Girls 11-13
Are horses your thing? If so, get ready to saddle up and learn all about your favorite animals. If you are age 11-13, and LOVE horses, get ready to take a special "behind the scenes" look at Girl Scouts - Audubon Council's Wrangler Program.
The Spur Program runs from 7am-5pm each Saturday during regularly scheduled Western horseback riding workshops. Spurs will have the opportunity to "shadow" a member of the Wrangler Program to learn about what it takes to be a Wrangler.
Girls who participate in the Spur Program will be invited to attend the Spur Only Weekends at the end of the semester. The Spur Only Weekend will provide you with the opportunity to improve your horsemanship and riding skills.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Spur, call our Program Department at 927-8946 or email spurs@girlscoutsaudubon.org.
You may not have room at home for a horse, but your troop/group can set a goal to support Girl Scouts - Audubon Council's dynamic riding program by adopting one or more of the horses at the Camp Marydale barn. Although they won't be living with you, they will receive the benefit of your love and support.
You adoption donation will be used to help provide essential items and care for our horses such as blankets, halters, saddles, food and medicine. It is up to your troop to decide at which level you wish to participate. Each horse may be adopted by multiple troops.
Levels of participation:
