One of the most popular outdoor experiences for a troop is camping.  Girls and adults can look forward to a great time when they have prepared for the kinds of challenges they will have in the out-of-doors, and anticipated some of the experiences which will be new, especially if troop camping for the first time.

Our Mission is Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. What a better place to do this than at camp!

There are many opportunities for the girls to learn new and exciting things, and to build courage, confidence, and character by learning leadership skills at camp. Some of these opportunities are:

• Learning how to build a fire and cook a meal
• Learning how to take care of the environment
• Learn new skills such as archery and canoeing
• Discovering and conquering challenges through team-building
• Go for a hike down to the riverbed and look for animal tracks or friendship rocks
• Learning horsemanship skills (must be fourth grade level or higher)

The more prepared you are when you go camping, the more fun the girls and adults will have! Keep these guidelines in mind when planning your next camping trip:

• Complete a registration form and return to the Council with your $15.00 deposit
• BTC Training (Basic Troop Camping)—Be sure you or someone in your troop has taken both 1 & 2
• First Aid/CPR—Make sure you or someone in your troop has a current card. This person must stay with the troop during the entire camping trip.
• Follow the camping standards of GSUSA in Safety-Wise, and the procedures and guidelines of Camp Marydale in the Camp Marydale book.
• Gather resource material for badge work or rainy day activities such as game and song books, crayons, yarn, scissors, rain gear, etc… Like our motto: Be Prepared!

Most of all have FUN! Camping is a great experience for all girls!

Service Unit Camping Registration forms and a camp calendar are mailed out to each Service Unit (SU) chairperson at the end of March each year. Service Unit Camp dates are assigned according to when the SU went camping over the past few years. Those SU’s that have not camped at all in the current year get priority and then everyone else is put in order depending on what date choice they received in the previous year(s).
